Los Borricos Team § Mongol Rally 2008 - Costa Polvoranca - Ulaanbaatar

 

 

Our challenge on taking part in the Mongolian Rally is double. On one hand, we have to prepare a long, tiring, laborious trip, with certain risks that we prudently assume, so we expect not only to end but to do it with enough desire to return, also by car, going across a different route from the initial one; on the other hand, we’ll try to collect the money ( 1.500 Euros ) for the humanitarian help.

It will be a tiring trip of around three or four weeks, by an ancient car, with an engine of less than 1 liter, across roads that in many cases will not allow us to circulate to more than 50 km/h, Due to the conditions of the area and the type of car, we will drive during long days from morning till night, looking maps which in occasions won’t be exact at all. We will try not to get lost going across montains, steppes, rivers or deserts in which any type of supply - water, petrol, food - is quite difficult to get.

When somebody ask for the reasons that have taken us to this adventure. Many and different oppinions will be expressed: someone will tell that we have suffered an existencial crisis; others will think that we are romantics of the litarature of trips; Many will say that we love to show off about this journey; the mystics will state that we suffer from their own illness and finally a group of sceptics will qualify it as “as pseudo-adventure for whippersnappers of city”.

2001, la idea
Dos amigos ingleses propietarios de un Fiat 126, al que no le daban uso pero que les daba pena llevar al desguace, decidieron arriesgarse a realizar un alocado viaje por los parajes más remotos del planeta y comprobar la resistencia de su pequeño coche. Escogieron Mongolia como destino fi nal de su aventura, y con lo puesto se lanzaron a la aventura. Sin embargo, al no llevar visados no pudieron salir de Europa… pero nació la idea de organizar el Mongol Rally.

2004, el primer rally
(Equipos inscritos: 6 / llegaron: 4)
Seis equipos, todos ellos amigos, salieron de Londres con la idea de alcanzar la capital mongola. Sólo cuatro de ellos lograron llegar a Ulán Bator después de 10.000 km de vivencias increíbles.

2005, más y mejor
(Equipos inscritos: 43 / llegaron: 18)
La carrera empieza a tener tintes internacionales. Son ya 43 los equipos que parten desde Londres, y después de deportaciones, asaltos de bandidos, acusaciones de espionaje, entre otras complicaciones logran llegar a Mongolia 18.

2006, victoria española
(Equipos inscritos: 167 / llegaron: 117)
Ya son 167 equipos los que toman la salida. Desde el Sur, por Afganistán, hasta el Norte, por el Círculo Polar se llevan a cabo las rutas más inverosímiles. Por primera vez, un equipo español se alza con la victoria, son los Spanish Bullfi ghters. La repercusión mediática empieza a ser notable. La recaudación benéfica asciende a 200.000 libras.

2007, con salida en Madrid

La victoria de los Spanish Bullfi ghters, auguraba una mayor participación española. El ayuntamiento de Madrid organiza la salida desde La Puerta del Sol. Son 9 equipos, entre ellos una vespa, los que parten desde la capital. Desde Londres más de 200 vehículos saltaron a la aventura.

2008, quinta edición
(Equipos inscritos: 300)
Con más afluencia que nunca esta edición promete ser histórica. 300 inscritos auguran una carrera sin igual y más alocada que nunca. Que gane el mejor.
